Gastric Banding Procedures in Houston, TX

About Gastric Banding

Gastric banding* involves placing an adjustable band around the top part of your stomach to create a small gastric pouch. The gastric pouch empties into the remaining stomach through a small outlet. The feeling of fullness depends upon the size of the opening between the pouch and the remainder of the stomach created by the gastric band. By adjusting the band the outlet size is controlled. The size of the stomach opening can be adjusted by filling the band with sterile saline, which is injected through a port placed under the skin.

Several clinic visits are scheduled after surgery. At these visits, the port is filled or emptied to achieve the right size for the band.
