One interesting thing the study did mention is that it followed a sampling of 278,982 people over a ten-year period using information from their electronic health records. Yet the study eliminated all those people who had weight reduction surgery and did not track them.
The reason these people were removed from the study data is that weight loss surgery is an effective way to lose weight and keep it off. It requires the individual to be fully committed to making major lifestyle changes, which include a change in dietary habits and increased activity levels.
Most people who undergo weight loss surgery tend to keep the weight off afterward. Even in cases where some people regain a little weight, the amount regained is a fraction of what they previously weighed prior to surgery.
